First-time parents can get free help from the Newborn Home Visiting Program. Health workers will visit your home and can help you with breastfeeding, mental health education and screenings, provide health and safety tips, and connect you with community resources.

Heads Up

Due to COVID-19, in-person services are temporarily suspended. The program is supporting families by phone.
  • Bilingual staff are available.
  • Parents receive three home visits and a follow-up phone call.
  • Parents can be eligible regardless of immigration status.

    • Eligibility

    To be eligible for this program, you should be a first-time parent who lives (https://www1.nyc.gov/site/trie/about/neighborhoods.page) in one of these neighborhoods (https://www1.nyc.gov/site/trie/about/neighborhoods.page) .You may also be eligible if you are a parent with a baby less than 3 months old and who:

  • lives in a NYCHA development in one of these neighborhoods.
  • current gets help from the Administration for Children's Services (ACS).
  • lives in a Department of Homeless Services (DHS) shelter.

    How to Apply

    If you gave birth in a hospital where the program operates, program staff will contact you. If you recently gave birth and you were not contacted, call 311 to find out if you can apply.You can also call these numbers if you live in these areas:

  • North and Central Brooklyn: 718-637-5235
  • South Bronx: 718-579-2878
  • East and Central Harlem: 646-672-2894If you live in a Department of Homeless Services shelter, call 718-579-6805 for more information about signing up for this program.
